[Dug's video starts, as most of his videos do, with a big, snuffling black nose as he finishes jamming it against the controls.]

Yeah, I'm here! I was calling to see how you were doing. If everything was all right.

I am doing very well! I found a ball, and then the bird found another ball and a squeaker! And now we are getting food from the school!

[He's had a really good couple of days, actually.]

Oh, good for you! Just be sure to play with them inside, though. Don't want them to get lost! I think you'll have some room in the shed by the school to play!

[ She pauses. ]

The shed was very full of people last night. I liked all of the people.

[What bird? The bird. Dug looks momentarily confused, like he was unaware someone could not know about the bird.]

The talking bird that smells like a man. He is my friend and we are all traveling together.

Well... It really doesn't take too long to fill that shed up, but I bet you had fun meeting so many people.

[ She really doesn't want him to be alone in this place. ]

Talking bird...? [ She's repeating the words slowly as she tries to place the description. ]

I'm sorry, Dug, but I haven't met or spoken to him yet. But I'm glad he's you're friend. Who else are you traveling with?

[Dug huffs and grumbles at the tablet all through the Cat's question and his own human-voiced reply. For someone who can understand animals on his own, it's probably as though Dug is saying the same thing in two voices at once.]

[ It does sound like that, and it's pretty annoying, honestly. ]

Good. You would be well justified if you did. I am moving north from the hospital, and to the eastern tunnels from there. You may avoid me, if you wish.

Or I could chase you and make you run!

[His folded-back ears give the lie to his brave front. He wants very much to stay away from the Cat.]

Where is the hospital compared to the place with the big water tanks?

The Aquarium. The hospital is north of that. It is a large building with several floors, all white.

I will not go north, because, uh...because I am going to let you run away, Cat! I am going to let you run very far away. Yes.

[John calls for Dug as soon as they make it to shelter. He hopes to god the dog made it somewhere because they hadn't been able to find him in the dark off the path, even after calling for him for what seemed like an hour.]

Dug? Hey, boy. Can you let me know where you are and if you've made it to a house? I'm sorry we were split up. We'll come find you tomorrow, okay? That thing we saw was frightening, I know. Are you hurt?

Master! I am in a house, but my skin hurts. When you find me I would like it if you would not make me wear the cone of shame.
